The Nova Project is designed to help make learning a good story, a relatable visual journey mapped out for young (K-12) learners to begin to better understand how they can tackle navigating complex topics in todays world!

From our rich illustrative, tailored educational panels, to fully-realized comic books and graphic novelettes, we help shift the way students receive and retain information.

EDUCATIONAL

Our materials and curriculums blend great art and carefully crafted storylines with standard-aligned curriculum and ready to go teaching guides!

Frameworks/Standards can include:

MTSS, SEL,STEAM/STEM, NGSS and SoR

Educators & Content Specialists:

Our educators and specialists (often including our clients themselves, students, teachers and community leaders ) develop curriculums, lesson plans, and educational components that turn our visual learning panels into teaching tools.

The studio operates through a multi-stage, iterative process, ensuring visual and educational goals are met.

Our network of educators and developmental coaches provide guidance to ensure the content is tailored to specific age groups, social-emotional needs, and learning goals.

Their inclusion is crucial to our core design protocols and helps ensure the material we create is not just entertaining, but also pedagogically sound and suitable for both schools and  interpersonal settings.

Family-Owned Core

Our family owned creative studio works  closely with our team of authors, illustrators, learning, facilitators, and developmental coaches to foster passionate and  consistent creative visions designed to align with the needs of our clients and the children they serve.

Writers and illustrators (noAI) craft scripts that balance narrative arcs (3-act structures) with educational objectives.

We then translate those relatable student/leader/teacher  informed scripts into visual panels, creating character designs, page layouts, and storyboards.

Standards and frameworks

The Collaborative Narrative Storyline Process:

The team brainstorms topics for storylines or alternately-meets with clients to create a customized (hyperlink to customize area)  theme, then we begin to blend educational curriculum requirements with engaging, relatable storytelling.

Visual Development:

Our incredibly talented Illustrators (no Ai hyperlink in footer header too?)create character profiles and rough thumbnail sketches, which are then reviewed and refined by the team to ensure the visual storytelling plan will bridge gaps and support the text narrative.

We embrace organic cycles of the natural world around us and use an intentional design core to teach kids.

We adhere to The Authors Guild of America's policy on AI

Production & More Review

The team works on final art, inking, coloring, and adding dialogue in a way that further allows the text and images to function seamlessly.

Supplementary Curriculums

Together our entire team creates classroom ready materials, teacher/parent/community guides, or workshop/activity/play structure formats that accompany the panels, comics and books!

We make them in such a way as to allow for easy implementation and make the learning experience fun for all!

Student-Created Content

Encouraging students to create their own comics to process difficult emotions or demonstrate understanding of sensitive topics, means relatability. When a child begins to understand how what they are being taught factors into their own lives, they become eager to engage in applying what they are reading and learning.

Creating a comic strip requires sequential learning and play while building confidence and creative skills.

Flexible output means stick figures are ok!

Everybody can tell their story through this format.

21st Century Skills

At Coosa Books we believe nurturing a growth mindset means teaching children 21st century skills like empathy,(hyperlinks for empathy) perseverance, collaboration, self control, critical thinking, creativity, adaptability and collaboration-and we build characters in our storylines in keeping with these important skillsets!

Providing a window into the lived experiences of others, aids in the development of emotional intelligence.

When children feel safe to “tell” their own stories they can begin to see themselves and how they might move forward in the wide world around them.

Why These Visual Format Models Work

Visual journeys are highly effective teaching tools allowing students to engage simultaneously with the material in the same setting at their own pace! From hesitant to struggling readers to children on level or advanced and gifted students, visual graphics reduce the cognitive load that traditional text heavy material creates and gives children room to imagine and explore!

Ideas are born! Memories are stored!

A child’s developing brain simply cannot map out sounds and letters fast enough to catch up to recall needed for fluency.

Kids need space and time for all the working areas of the brain to do their job as they learn to read!

Think of that in-between where the lobes involved in word storage and recollection meet as the white space you see between each panel (gutters) in a comic book or graphic novel.

That is also the space children imagine, relate and engage in learning to love reading.
