Coosa Books is an independent children's book company was founded by a dynamic mother and daughter duo and is located in Fairhope, Alabama.

At Coosa Books we believe nurturing a growth mindset means teaching children 21st century skills like empathy, perseverance, collaboration, self control, critical thinking, creativity, adaptability and collaboration-and we build characters in our storylines in keeping with these important skillsets!

Partnering with passionate authors, educators, parents and multi-modal talented illustrators,  allows us to design and publish  imaginative, custom sequential narrative panels, original comic books and graphic novelettes. 

Shannon Dickey

Shannon is the Senior Editor and CEO of Coosa Books, guiding the small press with a collaborative, cooperative philosophy. A teacher by trade and calling, Shannon transitioned from public education over a decade ago to focus on creative outreach. As a teaching artist she was hired to bring books and traditional tales to life, often promoting literacy and library programs. Shannon pursued her vocation further by producing children’s radio programming and community mural projects. She is a published poet.

Shannon brings a strong background in comprehensive and supplemental standards-aligned curriculum design for schools, libraries, non-profits, and special education programs, She ensures that Coosa Books’ offerings are engaging, accessible, and educationally sound. Her expertise in fostering understanding, informs the thoughtful, community-focused approach she brings to publishing. She is an Alabama native and mother of two beautiful children.

Isabella Emerald

Junior Art Director & Senior Illustrator

Nineteen-year-old Bell Emerald is a powerhouse creative serving as our Junior Art Director and Senior Illustrator. As a professional children’s book illustrator and entrepreneur, Bell is the original creator behind the vibrant illustrations seen across our publishing platform. Beyond her work with us, she brings her unique artistic vision to publishing poets and authors. She has a following of 60k on her personal art account. A first-year college student, Bell is also a dedicated disability advocate and peer youth mentor, and she lends her voice to the community as a member of the teen supervisory board at our local library.

Michale Taylor

Michale Taylor joins our team from Ohio as a passionate leader, developmental coach, and trauma-sensitive intervention specialist, bringing a compassionate, forward-thinking approach to our editorial department. As Managing Editor, she bridges the gap between pedagogical theory and practical classroom application, leveraging her expertise as a learning facilitator to ensure our materials are engaging, accessible, and inclusive. Mrs.Taylor is also a sought-after public speaker and active industry participant, attending educational events on behalf of our company to stay abreast of current pedagogical trends and changing mandates regarding standards. Her expertise in social emotional learning directly informs how we navigate these evolving educational environments, ensuring our products empower both educators and students. Mrs.Taylor is a loving mother to three young daughters.

Sunny Erickson

Chief operating officer Sundance (Sunny) Erickson is a highly qualified professional with extensive experience in acoustic and electric design, production, and digital/analog technology. As the Audio/Video Production Manager and Sound Design Editor/Engineer for Coosa Books, Sunny blends technical mastery with creative vision to produce high-quality audio and video content. His hands-on knowledge of sophisticated recording, editing, and mixing equipment makes him an invaluable asset in producing immersive soundscapes for publishing projects.

Beyond production, Sunny acts as Coosa Books’ Web Designer and Website Administrator, bridging the gap between high-end media creation and digital presence. He is a technically accomplished professional with proven knowledge of budgeting and financial stewardship, proactively managing project costs and logistics. An effective leader and personable communicator, Sunny has established excellent professional relationships with musicians, producers, studios, and venues. Sunny is an accomplished and innovative musician, intuitive producer and  a proud father of two wonderful children.
